UNITED STATES - Why would millions of pounds of tire rubber be used nationwide as a footing material? Equestri-Flex shaved rubber footing material is specially sized and shaped to provide the same benefits as pine shavings; however, tire rubber won't decompose the way organic material will, so it is virtually everlasting.
Equestri-Flex is placed 1" to 1.25" deep, and then mixed into your sand to achieve a homogenous blend of rubber and sand. The major reason Equestri-Flex works better than any other footing material is that its shape traps air in the top 1" of your surface. Trapped air is the primary shock absorbing property in a footing, and that is the reason that people have to "fluff up" a compacted riding area ... to re-trap air. Also, the rubber springs back to repeat this air trapping feature! The shock absorbing properties keep the hoof from pushing sand aside. It is this action that gets ultra fine particles airborne, so breathing dust is minimized. Also, if less sand gets pushed aside, dragging is greatly minimized. These features greatly lower maintenance costs! When energy is transferred to the footing, the horse's delicate leg bones and muscles are spared the reflected concussion.
In wet weather, the trapped air allows water to flow toward your drainage grade, which minimizes damp spots. In dry weather, users report that on the average, they are using approximately 25% of the water they used prior to adding the shaved rubber. In indoor riding areas, in addition to all the other benefits, the need to use "misting devices" or sprinklers is reduced or in many instances eliminated completely.
If a horse is concentrating on wet, dry, soft, hard, or slippery conditions in a riding area, it cannot focus on anything else. Equestri-Flex provides a consistent footing, which allows the horse to concentrate on its rider's instructions. Equestri-Flex maximizes training time, and saves money! Equestri-Flex is non-toxic... it was a tire. Tire rubber is fully cured, which means there are no chemicals that could be a problem, like rubber scrap from other processes. Since only the tread is shaved, there is virtually no wire or other contaminants that could cause any problems. Don't let your arena become a landfill... watch out for materials that break down, decompose, become slick, shouldn't be in an arena, or should be donated to charity.
